Pembroke Community Center

Pembroke, MA

The Town of Pembroke originally commissioned a study to explore the feasibility of constructing a new Community Center, combining Pembroke’s Recreation Department with the Council on Aging’s Senior Center, which no longer adequately served the aging population in Pembroke. The challenge was to realize the beneficial synergies between the two in a Community Center approach. BH+A studied efficiencies generated by not having to duplicate spaces as well as sharing spaces that are conveniently used by these groups at different times.

BH+A was then asked to continue into the design phase of a two story, 21,000SF intergenerational center. There is a 2 court basket ball gym, with a walking track above, a 2,000SF multipurpose room for large community meetings, a separate senior center area with lounge and cafe, and many smaller meeting/program/activity spaces throughout the building.

The project recently completed in the Summer of 2024.
