Hammonasset West Beach Improvements

BH+A designed a new bathhouse which includes a lifeguard station and police communications center and concessions stand inland of the flood velocity zone. The new facilities are still located within the 100-year flood plain. Associated with relocation of the bathhouse are parking lot renovations, a shaded picnic area, boardwalk connections from the new facilities to the existing beach boardwalk and sand dune creation between the new facilities and Long Island Sound. The design of the project implemented using energy conservation and sustainable design principles. The project also includes reconstruction of the parking area for 750 cars and new beach volleyball courts, a children’s play area and a paved pedestrian bicycle trail. © BH+A
