Northampton Street Residences
Boston, MA
Northampton Street is a 47 unit, all income restricted, multiple family housing, located in the South End Landmark district neighborhood of Boston. This community is comprised of richly diverse demographic lifelong residents, students, young professionals, and families. The architecture of this area is well known for richly textured brickworks and the small-scale urban block housing from the 19th century.
Central to the urban design strategy of the Northampton Street Residences is its relationship with the adjacent Newcastle Court building. The new building pulls back along its eastern edge, creating a shared pocket park between the two buildings with plantings to soften the transition between the two buildings. The dimension and scale of this pocket park is similar to that found in the exterior courtyard of the Newcastle Court building and will serve as an amenity to residents of both buildings.
