Gath Memorial Pool

BH+A was hired to renovate the Newton’s municipal pool and upgrade the pool house originally constructed in the 1960’s and sited in a large park that would be in use during the entire project. The goals of the renovation were to improve the entry and locker rooms, making the facility accessible for all, and creating flexible pool spaces so that different user groups could use the pool at the same time.
Two separate pools were constructed. One pool is an 8-lane lap pool with a diving section for competitive swimming and lap swimming use. In addition, the lap pool has ramp access and an MAAB/ADA compliant pool life for universal accessibility. The other pool is a recreational pool with a zero depth entry, fun slide, and 2 dedicated lap lanes for both aquatic exercise and lap swimming when the competitive pool is in use.
In addition, a brand new splash pad accessible from the pool but built just outside the security fence, allows the City to extend the pool season for residents after the main pools closed for the season.
